FILEVADO CONVERSION GUIDE

How to Convert HEIC to JPG for Sharing iPhone Photos

HEIC is efficient for storing photos, but JPG is still accepted by more upload forms and older applications.

Why HEIC and JPG are different

Many phones can save photos as HEIC, a high-efficiency format designed to retain visual detail while reducing storage needs. JPG is older and widely compatible with websites, messaging platforms and editing software. A photo that looks normal on your phone may still be rejected by a form that only accepts JPG or PNG.

Changing .heic to .jpg in a filename does not change its image data. A proper conversion decodes the HEIC image and encodes a new JPG file.

Convert and check the result

  1. Open the HEIC to JPG converter and choose your HEIC photo.
  2. Convert the image; no sign-up is required for the guest allowance.
  3. Download the JPG and open it to confirm orientation, appearance and dimensions.

What you should know about photo quality

JPG uses lossy compression and does not support transparency. It is a practical choice for compatibility, not a guarantee that every pixel or metadata field will be preserved. Color rendering, HDR appearance, EXIF metadata and Live Photo components can differ depending on the source.

If an editor requires a lossless raster format or you need transparency for a graphic, consider a PNG output instead. It may be larger than the original HEIC.

Which output should you choose?

Use JPG when a form says it only accepts JPEG files or when you need a photo that opens in a wide variety of older programs. Choose PNG when the destination requires PNG specifically, or when your workflow prioritizes editing an image without another lossy JPG save. A PNG converted from HEIC may take more storage space; that does not mean it contains more original detail.

Before deleting an important source photo, keep the original HEIC. You can then repeat the conversion with different settings or use the original in a tool that supports HEIC directly.

Conversion note: Results depend on the source file, its contents and processing limits. Check output files before using them for important work. Temporary files are automatically removed after the processing window.
